Torres: Competition will be key to Chelsea success

The 29-year-old forward is pleased with the attacking options at manager Jose Mourinho's disposal and believes every player will be given a chance to impress the Portuguese
Fernando Torres has praised the competition for places Chelsea boasts in attack, and believes the Stamford Bridge outfit needs strength in depth if it is to be successful.

Samuel Eto'o joined the west London club this summer and will compete for a place in the starting lineup along with Torres and Demba Ba, with the Spaniard convinced that such fierce rivalry will spur on the entire team.

"We have great strikers and all of us are going to score goals," Torres told reporters. "It’s nice to have this competition. The season is going to be long like the last one. There’ll be time for all of us to play in important games and score some goals.

"The main thing is we keep winning. We are in the top four in the Premier League and have moved one step forward in the [Capital One] Cup.

"We’re all fighting to be in the lineup, to be in the squad. It is not easy but is good for the improvement of the team.

"There are players who have not been involved in the last few matches and the passion and character is plain to see."

Torres scored in the midweek Capital One Cup victory over Swindon and will be hoping his performance has done enough to earn a place in the starting XI against Tottenham on Saturday
